Spanish Artists-in-Residence
The Cultural Office of the Embassy of Spain in Washington, D.C. presents its artistic residencies program, Spanish Artists-In-Residence, a transversal and multidisciplinary program that seeks to strengthen the internationalization of Spanish artists and creators in the United States, promoting professional opportunities with prestigious institutions in the country.
The artistic residences are designed in collaboration with partner institutions to create ad hoc programs that are in line with the host institution’s needs and the objectives pursued by the Cultural Office. Currently, artistic residencies programs are being developed in the disciplines of performing arts, music, literature and visual arts.
Objectives
- supporting emerging artists and creators;
- supporting the design of programs that promote the digital presence of creators and penetration into American cultural circuits;
- facilitating peer-to-peer experiences with North American creators and professionals;
- creating post-art residency opportunities.
Current programs
SPAIN dances
- The Choreographic Residency aims at fostering artistic dialogue between Spanish and American dancers and choreographers, and serves as an incubator for new or in-process work.
- The International Choreographer’s Residency at the American Dance Festival is the result of the collaboration with the American Dance Festival and Certamen Coreográfico de Madrid to provide an opportunity for a emerging Spanish choreographers to participate at the prestigious International Choreographer’s Residency program as part of the American Dance Festival.
Crisp-Ellert Art Museum
Visual arts and heritage artistic residency in the City of St. Augustine, in collaboration with Flagler College.
Alburquerque International Flamenco Festival / National Institute of Flamenco
Artistic residency for Flamenco artists in collaboration with the University of New Mexico.
New Dramaturgy / International Writing Program (IWP)
Residency for Spanish playwrights for the translation and production of plays in collaboration with American universities.
Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA)
Artistic residency for illustrators and comic creators.
Sound Art Residency
Artistic residency in collaboration with Chicago’s Experimental Sound Studio aiming at promoting the creation of professional networks for Spanish sound artists.
