Fall Open Doors 2023

The Former Residence of the Ambassadors of Spain in Washington, D.C. opens its doors one more year to share the current exhibitions on show at the Beaux-Arts mansion.

You will have the chance to visit the latest art installations, both outside and within the walls of the building. Discover the exhibit about the Meadows Museum in Dallas, and the latest individual showcase of our project DC.es | A gaze of Washington, DC by Spanish photographers and much more.

Outdoors exhibits

  • Lideresas by Ana Amado. Lideresas is the new work of Spanish artist Ana Amado that recreates historical photographs of male leaders, displayed at the fence of the Embassy of Spain’s Cultural Office.
  • C’est la vie? Raising Awareness on Capital Punishment through Art. Marking the World Day Against the Death Penalty on October 10, the Embassy of Spain of Washington, D.C. and its Cultural Office —together with the European Union Delegation, some state members, and Witness to Innocence and Ensemble Contre la Peine de Mort (ECPM)— showcase an exhibit featuring reproductions of artwork created by people incarcerated on death row at Saint Quentin State Prison in California to raise awareness on capital punishment.
  • Spain’s EU Council Presidency Mural. On the occasion of Spain’s Presidency of the EU Council, the Cultural Office of the Embassy of Spain in Washington, DC presents a banner with a graphic design to show the union between Spain and the EU, designed by democràcia® estudio.
  • Not Only What, but Also How offers a review of each of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals conducted by Spanish artists and organizations that will provide the opportunity to take a closer look at the 2030 Agenda. All the artistic proposals will be displayed monthly in the garden of the Former Residence of the Ambassadors of Spain.
  • Around Pollinators by Lucia Loren. Environmental Spanish artist Lucía Loren reflects on the fundamental role of native biotopes in generating resilience in the face of the serious threat of climate change through the creation of a garden of native plants that seeks to attract and feed local populations of fauna, improving their habitats, air quality and biodiversity.
  • Pan y Circo by Axel Void. The third edition of Not Your Regular Wall hosts Spanish muralist Axel Void as a guest of honor and showcases his work titled Pan y Circo.
  • La Mujer del Alfeizar by Carmen Segovia. Spanish illustrator Carmen Segovia explores the idea of returning to the outside world in this third intervention on the windows of the Former Residence of the Ambassadors of Spain in Washington, D.C.
