Spanish Young Music Talents: Rosalía Gómez Lasheras in Washington, DC

Spanish pianist Rosalía Gómez Lasheras performs at the Former Residence of the Ambassadors of Spain as part of the program “Spanish Young Music Talents.”

Spanish Young Music Talents (SYMT) is the new program of the Cultural Office of the Embassy of Spain in Washington, D.C. SYMT has been envisioned to enhance and support Spanish young musicians’ careers, in collaboration with U.S. music schools and universities at a higher level (bachelor and graduate students orchestras), offering them an experience abroad.

SYMT aims to offer young musicians not only a concert or recital in the U.S., but a complete experience with complementary activities such as masterclasses, talks, conferences, etc. to broaden their opportunities and contacts. All visiting musicians are winners of the Juventudes Musicales de España national award and under 30 years old.

Rosalía Gómez Lasheras

Born in 1994, Rosalía Gómez Lasheras began piano studies at age 5 with María José Cerviño and Alexander Gold. She later studied with Alan Weiss at the Utrecht Conservatory for her Bachelor’s degree, and with Claudio Martínez Mehner at the Hochschule für Musik Basel for her Master’s in Performance and Solistin Diplom. Her interest in historical keyboards started in the Netherlands, where she took harpsichord lessons from Siebe Henstra. She continued her studies at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, focusing on fortepiano with Edoardo Torbianelli and harpsichord with Jörg Andreas Bötticher. Her musical influences include Kennedy Moretti, Amandine Beyer, Clive Brown, Sergio Azzolini, Rita Wagner, and Ferenc Rados.

After winning the Young Pianist Foundation Competition in Amsterdam, she debuted in renowned halls across Europe, the Middle East, and the USA. She has performed in venues like Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Tivoli Vredenburg Utrecht, Palau de la Música Catalana, Cairo Opera House, Konzerthaus Dortmund, and Herkulessaal in Munich. She has also appeared as a soloist with orchestras including Noord Nederlands Orkest, Real Filharmonía de Galicia, Sinfónica de Galicia, Nederlands Jonge Orkest, Cairo Symphony Orchestra, Duisburger Philarmoniker, Folkwang Kammerorchester Essen, and Basel Symphony Orchestra.

She frequently collaborates with many chamber music groups. Her duo with violinist Antonio Viñuales has won awards at the BOG Duo Competition and the Orpheus Chamber Music Competition. She has performed at various festivals including Delft Chamber Music Festival, Storioni Festival, Shiermonnikoog Chamber Music Festival, Clásicos de Verano, Beflügelt Festival, Musikdorf Ernen, Swiss Chamber Music Festival, Heidelberger Frühling, Wissembourg Chamber Music Festival, and more.

Gómez Lasheras is experienced in Historically Informed Performance. In 2021, she earned a Master’s in Musical Research from Valencia International University with a thesis on The Rubato in Schubert’s Piano Music. She explores various instruments, from Baroque to electronic keyboards, driven by her passion for musical aesthetics history.

In 2015, El Correo Gallego newspaper awarded her with the title Galician of the Year for “her striking career and her outstanding artistic maturity.”
