About the artist
Ana Penyas is a Spanish illustrator and comic book author. Among her most outstanding projects is Estamos todas bien (Salamandra Graphic, 2017) / We’re just fine (Fantagraphics, 2023), where she talks about her grandmothers and the generation of women who grew up under the Franco dictatorship and for which she received the award for national revelation author of the Barcelona Comic Fair and the National Comic Award 2018.
She has published several illustrated albums, among which we can find Mexique, el nombre del barco (El zorro rojo, 2017) / Mexique, A Refugee Story from the Spanish Civil War (Eerdmans, 2020), and Mi barrio (Alboroto ediciones, 2018) / My neighborhood (Tapioca Press, 2022), chosen by the Society of Illustrators Original Art Show, New York, 2022.
In 2021, she published Todo bajo el sol (Salamandra Graphic, 2018), a reflection on the transformation of the Spanish Mediterranean coast as a result of tourism, for which she won the RAJA Éco-Fauve Award at the 50th edition of the Festival de la Bande Dessinée d’Angoulême and the ACDCómic Award for the best national work 2021.
Her latest project, In a house. Genealogy of household work and care, is an exhibition that she has developed together with the anthropologist Alba Herrero Garcés at the Valencian Institute of Modern Art IVAM (November 2022 – April 2023).
