Spanish Caravan Music Festival 2014

Featuring for the first time in Chicago, the festival will bring the best of the alternative and indie music scene from Spain and Latin America.

The line-up includes artists that have secured their place among the most well-known festivals in North America such as The Global Fest, SXSW and Canadian Music Week.

Juan Perro

  • On March 7 at 7:30 pm. Buy tickets.
  • Santiago Auserón, alias Juan Perro, former lead singer of Radio Futura and one of the most eminent names within Spanish rock of the 1980s, was the pioneer in spreading the roots of son cubano in Europe. He will present, along with master guitarist Joan Vinyals, part of his recent book, The lost rhythm.

Kiko Veneno

  • On March 15 at 7:30 pm.
  • A pioneer in the fusion of flamenco, pop and rock, Kiko Veneno collaborated in 1979 on the legendary album La Leyenda del Tiempo with Camarón de la Isla, writing the song I’m Flying. His album Echate un Cantecito sold 300,000 copies and is a main reference for artists like Martirio, Julieta Venegas, Muchachito Bombo Infierno, Mala Rodriguez and The Planets.

Fuel Fandango

  • On March 16 at 9 pm at Hard Rock Cafe, 63 West Ontario St, 60654 Chicago.

  • A duo whose key is the perfect blend of elegance, talent, positive energy and a deep musical knowledge of modern and traditional genres of electronic music, pop and flamenco. Their second album, Trece Lunas, has received a great reception in international festivals such as Eurosonic, Les Transmusicales or Arezzo Wave. They will be touring in the U.S. after their participation at SXSW.

Arizona Baby

  • On March 16 at 10 PM at Hard Rock Cafe, 63 West Ontario St, 60654 Chicago.
  • Tickets at Latin Street Dance Academy, 1335 W. Lake St. Call 312-427-2572 or buy online. 
  • An acoustic rock band whose latest album, The Truth, the Whole Truth and Nothing but the Truth, affects the psychedelic-folk and the more lyrical side of the group. They have shared the stage with international bands the likes of Mark Knopfler, Clem Snide and Chris Isaak.

La Canalla

  • On March 19 at 9 pm at Hard Rock Cafe, 63 West Ontario St, 60654 Chicago. Buy tickets.
  • La Canalla is modernism and tradition, tenderness and passion, joy and impudence —a unique encounter of Jazz and Spanish Folk with a cosmopolitan Spirit and a Flamenco soul, brought to the stage in a fresh and engaging way, where humor and irony serve as instrument to tell very serious things.

Opening night reception and after party with DJ Soulphonetics on March 7, from 9 pm to 10:30 pm. Spanish food, cava and beer will be served. Buy tickets.
