Fashion Art by Manuel Fernández
An exciting fusion of fashion design and art created by the Spanish designer Manuel Fernandez in association with ten of the most important artists of Puerto Rico.
For ten years Fashion Art project has been travelling around the world and is now celebrating his birthday in Puerto Rico. Museo de las Américas presents this exhibition in collaboration with the Puerto Rican participating artists Antonio Martorell, Rafael Trelles, Sebastián Vallejo, Rafael Rivera Rosa, Marlene Hernández Casillas, Cacheila Soto, Joshua Santos Rivera “Ismo,” David Zayas, Nelson Figueroa and Bernardo Medina, who capture their paintings in the exclusives dresses of the designer after a common work process where artist and designer combines their talents.
Each dress is created after and intense brainstorming between artist and designer to create a new language where painting and design become an exclusive piece. All of these pieces represent the style, technique and personal view of communication of each artist.
The project was born in 1998 as an idea of Manuel Fernández willing to offer the artist community an exceptional and new support. The magic of Fashion Art resides in its alive character in constant progress. As the exhibition travels across cities and countries, grows with the incorporation of new artists, becoming a constant developing exhibition. During these ten years Fashion Art has collaborated with more than 180 Spanish and Latin American artist.
Along with the exhibition in Puerto Rico there will be several workshops about fashion design and art, focusing on groups at risk of social exclusion through to Fashion Art Institute.
