The Guernica Project: World Premiere

The world premiere of Ensemble for These Times (E4TT)’s “The Guernica Project” celebrates the 80th anniversary of Picasso’s “Guernica” with music by Zavala & Carro and Hoover & Bermel.

In commemoration of the 80th anniversary of Picasso’s monumental Guernica, new music chamber group Ensemble for These Times (E4TT) will premiere The Guernica Project, featuring University of Baltimore composer Jeffrey Hoover’s Guernica for soprano, violin, cello, and piano, with words in Spanish, Basque, German, Italian, Latin, and English.

The program also includes works by living Spanish composers from E4TT’s 2016 Call for Scores, Mario Carro and Mercedes Zavala; Death With Interruptions by Grammy-nominated Derek Bermel; Jeffrey Hoover’s Burning Giraffe; Guernica by Frederic Sharaf; historical images courtesy of the Museo de la Paz in Gernika-Lumo; and Basque dance by the Zazpiak Bat Dance Group.

E4TT consists of composer David Garner, soprano Nanette McGuinness, pianist Dale Tsang and guest cellist Anne Lerner-Wright. E4TT focuses on 20th and 21st century music that is relevant, engaging, original and compelling.

Jeffry Hoover will give a brief composer talk to start the program.
