Mercedes Peón: Songs of Galicia

Mercedes Peón performs ancient and contemporary songs from Galicia in her US debut.

Mercedes Peón, from La Coruña, Galicia, is a singer, bagpiper, and multi-percussionist, who has dedicated herself to recovering traditional music in her native Spain.

Peón has pioneered the formation of some female groups, received various awards, and performed at festivals throughout the world. She has worked with Xosé Manuel Budino, Manu Chao and Carlos Núñez, amongst many others.

She has the aesthetic audacity of Björk, the emotional depth of PJ Harvey, and more rhythms than Fatboy Slim.
