José Limón Dance Company

José Limón Dance Company

Hailed as one of the world’s greatest dance companies, the Limón Dance Company has been at the vanguard of American Modern dance since its inception in 1946.

Now in its 71st year, the Limón Dance Company renowned for its technical mastery and dramatic expression demonstrates both the timelessness of José Limón’s works and the humanistic vision that guides the repertory choices.

In the Company’s first Joyce Theater season under its new artistic director, Colin Connor, the contemporary emerges from the classics with musicality, athleticism, and drama.

Concerto Grosso, with its elegance and classicism, opens the program, followed by Colin Connor’s driving sextet, Corvidae. The luminous Night Light by Kate Weare, lives alongside a suite from Limón’s iconic A Choreographic Offering. Rounding out the program is the powerful Chaconne with live music, or two distinct productions, one traditional and one new, of The Exiles, Limón’s touching evocation of banishment.
