Considered one of the most important figures of modern popular music, singer-songwriter Joan Manuel Serrat ends his career with the farewell tour “The vice of singing 1965-2022.”

This concert at Beacon Theatre is the first stop of his farewell tour that will end in Barcelona in december 2022.

Joan Manuel Serrat i Teresa born in 1943, is a Spanish musician, singer-songwriter, recording artist, and performer. He is considered one of the most important figures of modern, popular music in both the Spanish and Catalan languages.

Serrat’s lyrical style has been influenced by other poets such as Mario Benedetti, Antonio Machado, Miguel Hernández, Rafael Alberti, Federico García Lorca, Pablo Neruda, and León Felipe. He has also recorded songs by Violeta Parra and Víctor Jara. Serrat was one of the pioneers of what is known in Catalan as Nova Cançó (Nueva Canción). Joan Manuel Serrat is also known by the names “El noi del Poble-sec” and “El Nano.”

Mediterranean it was one of the artist’s best known hits, both in Europe and South America, published in 1971. In 2006, he collected the Gold Medal of Merit, granted by the Spanish Government. That same year, he was named honorary doctorate by the Complutense University of Madrid. The following year, he collected the Medal of Honor of the Catalan Parliament and the appointment as a knight of the Legion of Honor of the French Republic.
