Fernando Cuétara: Harmony

Centro Cultural Español presents the exhibition Harmony, a series of works where Fernando Cuétara manages to have a dialog with space.

The works, which all consist of a bare canvas that has been folded either once or multiply, are much more than just a formal appeal. The crease represents, above all, a space of possibilities with an infinite path.

As a nineteenth-century craftsman, Fernando Cuetara uses the canvas through manipulation and observation of its specific qualities, not to cover it with pigments or images but to allow it to express itself.

The singularity of Cuétara’s work achieved indistinctness between bi-dimensionality and three-dimensionality, from folding the canvas surface and combining the texture with the fold. He also experiments with the size and shape of these, adding a series of monochromatic paintings that convey to the viewer an impression of calm and serenity in spatial infinity.

In this new exhibition, harmony is the great protagonist and through it, Cuétara gradually evolves towards the equilibrium of the human spirit with a strong and particular new aesthetic code, in which the spectator can sense a universal magnetic essence based on simplicity.

Opening on February 4th at 7 pm.
