Spanish Nights with Rafael Aguirre & François López-Ferrer
The Billing Symphony Orchestra and Chorale presents “Spanish Nights,” the opening concert for the new season of their “Classic Series,” featuring guest conductor François López-Aguirre and guitarist Rafael Aguirre.
The repertoire for Spanish Nights will include selections from Falla’s Three-Cornered Hat and Ginastera’s Estancia, as well as Rodrigo’s jewel for Spanish guitar, the Concierto de Aranjuez performed by Aguirre at the guitar.
About Rafael Aguirre
Rafael Aguirre is one of the most celebrated guitarists worldwide. He has won 13 first prizes at international competitions (including the Tarrega Competition and Pro Musicis, New York) and has performed in 37 countries. Aguirre plays regularly in prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall in New York, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Vienna’s Konzerthaus, Moscow’s Tchaikovsky Hall, Philharmonie am Gasteig in Munich, Hamburg’s Laeiszhalle and Elbphilharmonie, Palau de la Musica in Barcelona, King’s Place in London, Cuba’s National Theatre, the Hyogo Performing Arts Center in Japan, and Seoul’s Arts Center in South Korea.
About François López-Ferrer
Spanish-American conductor François López-Ferrer came to international attention after a critically acclaimed debut at the 2018 Verbier Festival, where he jumped in for Iván Fischer in a shared program with Sir Simon Rattle and Gébor Takécs-Nagy. He has recently received the 2021-22 Dudamel Fellow, became Los Angeles Philharmonic Associate Conductor and is also the Cincinnati Symphony assistant conductor.
