Spanish Young Music Talents: Daniel Juárez at Georgia Tech

Spanish musician Daniel Juárez is the first jazz musician coming as a guest of the “Spanish Young Music Talents” program, and will be joining the students at Georgia Tech for a week full of events.

Spanish Young Music Talents (SYMT) is the new program of the Cultural Office of the Embassy of Spain in Washington, D.C. SYMT has been envisioned to enhance and support Spanish young musicians’ careers, in collaboration with U.S. music schools and universities at a higher level (bachelor and graduate students orchestras), offering them an experience abroad.

SYMT aims to offer young musicians not only a concert or recital in the U.S., but a complete experience with complementary activities such as masterclasses, talks, conferences, etc. to broaden their opportunities and contacts. All visiting musicians are winners of the Juventudes Musicales de España national award and under 30 years old.

As part of his residency in Georgia Tech, Daniel Juárez will offer several lectures about jazz, conduct rehearsals with the jazz ensemble and jazz combos, and perform with the Chamber Orchestra and the Jazz Ensemble as a soloist:

Performances

• On Tuesday, September 26 at 7:30 pm: Chamber Orchestra Concert featuring Daniel Juárez as soloist, at the Ferst Center at Georgia Tech University.
• On Thursday, September 28 at 7:30 pm: Jazz Ensemble Concert conducted by Daniel Suárez, at the Ferst Center at Georgia Tech University.

About Daniel Juárez

Based in Madrid since 2017, Daniel Juárez is a renowned saxophonist, composer and educator. He released his first album Caminos as a band leader in 2014. He is committed to composing original music that mixes jazz with styles as diverse as pop, hip-hop, odd meters, ballads, electronica, free and contemporary music.

He studied his bachelor’s degree at Musikene (Donostia, Spain). Later on, he went to the Netherlands to study his master’s degree at the Prins Claus Conservatory, during which he completed an exchange with Queens College. He would live for six months in New York City, where he recorded his second album, Neuronal Odd World, released in 2017. After returning to Spain, he released Tales From Some Of Those Lands in 2019. And more recently he recorded a live album, Energía – Live, released on November 11, 2022 with the label ΠΚmusic, led by the well-known double bass player Petros Klampanis.

Juárez combines his activity between concerts as a professional musician, and teaching Jazz & Modern Music saxophone, Big Band and improvisation lessons at Alfonso X El Sabio University (UAX) in Madrid, Spain.​​
