Vignettes by Marta Sánchez
Blues Alley, one of the most recognized jazz venues in the US, presents Spanish jazz pianist Marta Sanchez as part of their “Solo Piano Series.”
Founded in 1965, Blues Alley is the nation’s oldest continuously operating jazz supper club. It has showcased internationally renowned artists such as Dizzy Gillespie, Sarah Vaughan, Nancy Wilson, Grover Washington Jr., Ramsey Lewis, Charlie Byrd, Maynard Ferguson, and Eva Cassidy in an intimate setting. Located in the heart of historic Georgetown, in an 18th-century red brick carriage house, Blues Alley provides an ambiance reminiscent of the jazz clubs of the 1920s and 1930s.
As part of Blues Alley’s Solo Piano Series, Spanish jazz pianist Marta Sanchez will perform solo concerts at 7 pm and 9:30 pm. This is a rare chance for the audience to hear her play alone, as she is primarily known for leading the jazz quintet she founded. In this performance, she will present pieces from her solo piano repertoire titled Vignettes, a collection of short compositions she began developing during an artist residency at the MacDowell Colony a few years ago. The pandemic allowed Sanchez to focus on this project, enabling her to complete the writing and explore its various possibilities.
Based in New York City, pianist Marta Sanchez is better known for her work with her quintet, with two of their albums selected among the top 10 records of the year by The New York Times.
