The Spotlight by Foto Colectania Foundation

The latest edition of Foto Colectania’s project, “The Spotlight,” presents a selection of finalist photographs displayed on the fence of the Spanish Cultural Center in Washington, D.C.

This new outdoor exhibition, The Spotlight by Foto Colectania Foundation | Young talent in Photography Schools of Barcelona, showcases the photographic projects shortlisted for The Spotlight. This initiative, led by the Foto Colectania Foundation since 2010, aims to highlight emerging talent from some of the most prominent photography schools in Barcelona. This project explores the diverse styles and approaches of a new generation of visual creators who, through their images and narratives, invite the viewer to experience the world from singular artistic perspectives.

Artists

The selected artists for this edition and their respective photography schools are:

These institutions, part of Foto Colectania’s Partner Schools program, mentor and pre-select students whose projects are initially presented in an audiovisual format. From this selection, Foto Colectania chooses one finalist per school.

The exhibition seeks to raise awareness of contemporary Spanish photography, strengthen ties with the United States, and expand educational programs that support emerging creators while promoting photography and visual culture.

After 15 editions and over 500 showcased projects, The Spotlight has become a springboard for young photographers’ artistic careers and a platform for fostering connections among educational institutions dedicated to photography.

Foto Colectania Foundation

Founded in Barcelona in 2002, the Foto Colectania Foundation is one of the first initiatives dedicated to promoting photography in Spain. Its mission is to collect, preserve and promote photographic works. The collection comprises 3,000 photographs by more than 80 Spanish and Portuguese artists, spanning from the 1950s to the present.

Beyond the collection, the Foundation curates exhibitions and hosts events both on-site and through their digital platform. The Foundation also engages in collaborative programs and organize touring exhibitions in partnership with museums and cultural institutions worldwide.

This new outdoor exhibition will be on view on the fence of the Spanish Cultural Center starting April 7, 2025, coinciding with the Caradusanto ft. Dystaron performance.
