Salvador Dalí: Technology, Reinvention, and The Power of Art

The Former Residence of the Ambassadors of Spain welcomes Dr. Hank Hine, Dalí Museum director, for a talk about Salvador Dalí and his work.

Salvador Dalí is one of the most celebrated artists of all time. His fiercely technical yet highly unusual paintings, sculptures and visionary explorations in film and life-size interactive art ushered in a new generation of imaginative expression. From his personal life to his professional endeavors, he always took great risks and proved how rich the world can be when you dare to embrace pure, boundless creativity.

On the occasion of the 40th Anniversary of the Dali Museum, Dr. Hank Hine, director of the Dali Museum, will be sharing his expertise about the artist in a talk about his work, his life, and his way of understanding the world.

Hine is the founder and Co-Director of Innovation Labs at The Dalí, in addition to serving as an Innovation Labs facilitator. He is passionate about working to share the strategies of creative thinking to expand human capabilities in diverse pursuits. He also serves the Museum as Executive Director, having begun his stewardship of the organization in 2002. He was instrumental in the creation of The Dalí’s new building which opened on January 11, 2011 (“one of the top ten buildings to see in your lifetime,” as noted by AOL Travel News).

Hine earned his undergraduate degree at Stanford University and his Master’s and Doctorate degrees at Brown University. He has extensive experience with contemporary artists and writers and the intersection of media in the current cultural milieu. He was founder and director of Limestone Press and Hine Editions, a San Francisco publishing house specializing in artist books and the production of museum catalogs. He served for seven years as Director of the research and publishing institute GraphicStudio at the University of South Florida in Tampa before joining The Dalí. Hine’s publications include text and image relationships, contemporary art, and the opportunities of new media.
