Pride Month 2024: Color me Proud
The Spanish Cultural Center celebrates Pride Month with a banner that embraces diversity, and Spain’s commitment to LGBTQI+ rights.
Spanish artist Yeyéi Gómez has designed a banner displayed at the entrance of the Former Residence of the Ambassadors of Spain to celebrate Pride month with our Colour Me Proud initiative.
Four Spanish artists, former grant holders from the Spanish Royal Academy in Rome, were selected for their exceptional work to design a banner to be showcased on the Cultural Center’s façade. The artists –Joan Casaramona Gual, Silvia Fernández Palomar, Yeyéi Gomez and Begoña García-Alén González– proposed their designs, and we held a public online vote to decide which poster will be showcased on the main façade of the Former Residence.
The awarded design by Yeyéi Gómez is visible on our façade in 16th Street. In addition, all designs will also be showcased on our indoor patio.
Color Me Proud is an opportunity to showcase the creativity and diversity of Spanish artists, while also celebrating the LGBTQ+ community, its trailblazers, and their achievements. Spain has been a pioneer in LGBTQI+ rights, legalizing same-sex marriage for all citizens and establishing equality in adoption by same-sex couples in 2005. Today, LGBTQI+ rights remain a key part of Spain’s foreign policy agenda, taking a human rights-based approach. Spain is a member of the United Nations LGBTI Core Group and actively contributed to the EU Guidelines on the rights of LGBT+ people, adopted in 2013.
We invite everyone to join us in this celebration of pride, diversity, and artistic expression, as we champion the rights and equality of all.
