Olan'P: Orquesta Langreana de Plectro
Founded in 1945, the Spanish lute orchestra Olan’P presents two different repertoires in Washington, D.C.
Composed of 25 musicians and one of the most prestigious Asturian sopranos, the Spanish lute orchestra Olan’P brings two complementary repertoires. One of them includes zarzuelas and popular songs, while the other is specifically made for the orchestra, including a U.S. world premiere.
Olan’p is one of the most complete musical formations of its field, recognized all over Spain, totaling more than 500 performances. They have published three complete recording projects with both instrumental and lyrical repertoires. They have also organized FIMCPA, the International Plucked String Music Festival in Asturias, which gathered the most outstanding formations and personalities of the world’s plectrum instrument overview.
The orchestra has been a subject of three academic investigation projects, two of which were for the Ethnomusicology course of the University of Oviedo’s Musicology Department: La Orquesta Langreana de Plectro and the Festival Internacional de Música de Cuerda Pulsada de Asturias. The third was presented in the String Department of the Eduardo Martínez Torner Conservatoire in Oviedo as an end-of-degree project under the title Orquesta Langreana de Plectro. Historia, Repertorio y Pedagogía.
Olan’p has received multiple recognitions granted by public and private entities.
