Jesús Benzal with Dance Place at the Spanish Cultural Center
Spanish dancer Jesús Benzal will present the results of his artistic residency at Dance Place in a unique performance at the Spanish Cultural Center.
As the dancer selected to participate in the second edition of the residency at Dance Place, organized in collaboration with the Cultural Office of the Embassy of Spain, Jesús Benzal will present the result of his work in Washington, D.C. at a one-time event at the Spanish Cultural Center.
The dancer will showcase his skills and knowledge in a brief performance for the audience. He will be joined by some artists he has collaborated with during his stay. This will be followed by a short conversation and Q&A about the contemporary dance world and the current situation for dancers in Spain and the U.S.
During his residency, Jesús Benzal engaged in multiple activities to share and display his work and ideas, participating in various workshops and events not only at Dance Place but around the city.
Jesús Benzal
Jesús Benzal from Alcalá de Guadaíra, Seville, Spain, has won awards in various national and international choreographic competitions. He received first prize at the Tanzplattform Bern 2024, the Burgos/New York International Choreography Competition, and the Sabadell Choreographic Competition, among others.
His piece Handle with Care, nominated for Best Dance Show at the 22nd Max Awards, also won first prize at the Premi de Dansa de l’Institut del Teatre. Benzal has showcased his signature work at institutions such as the Conservatorio Superior de Danza María de Ávila in Madrid, Danza 180º, Dance Fabrik Madrid, and På Tå Hev in Oslo.
