In & Out | Spring-Summer Open Doors 2023

The Former Residence of the Ambassadors of Spain in Washington, D.C. opens its doors to share the exhibitions on show, including limited guided tours of the outdoor garden installation “Around Pollinators.”

To celebrate the arrival of summer, the Former Residence of the Ambassadors of Spain in Washington, DC opens its doors –IN & OUT– to its audience to share the latest art installations, both outside and within the walls of the building.

On top of the open doors, limited guided tours of the garden installation Around Pollinators will be offered by landscapist William H. Sullivan to show you this project from the inside, unveiling all kinds of details about the plants and pollinators that inhabit this space. RSVP is mandatory for the guided tours.

OUTdoor exhibits

Lideresas by Ana Amado

In Lideresas, Spanish photographer Ana Amado presents an exhibit where women recreate iconic or well-known photographs where male leaders are shown in any area of society, to generate a healthy debate and change through the power of photography.

Around pollinators

In Around Pollinators, environmental Spanish artist Lucía Loren reflects on the fundamental role of native biotopes in generating resilience in the face of the serious threat of climate change through the creation of a garden of native plants that seek to attract and feed local populations of fauna, improving their habitats, air quality and biodiversity.

Pan y Circo by Axel Void

Pan y Circo is the third edition of Not Your Regular Wall, a project that hosts Spanish muralist Axel Void as a guest of honor and showcases his work.

La Mujer del Alféizar by Carmen Segovia

In La Mujer del Alféizar, Spanish illustrator Carmen Segovia explores the idea of returning to the outside world in this third intervention on the windows of the Former Residence of the Ambassadors of Spain in Washington, D.C.

Not Only What, But Also How

Not Only What, But Also How offers a review of each of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals conducted by Spanish artists and organizations that will provide the opportunity to take a closer look at the 2030 Agenda. All the artistic proposals will be displayed monthly in the garden of the Former Residence of the Ambassadors of Spain.

INdoor exhibits

DC.es: Uproot by Paula Anta

The second work within DC.es portrays the journey of Spanish photographer Paula Anta: Uproot. In this photography exhibition on view at the Former Residence, Anta explores nature and the uprooting process from a new perspective. Uprooting is the loss or corruption of the roots and symbolizes an estrangement or loss of vital meaning. The exhibition showcases three photographic series taken in different parks inside and outside of Washington, D.C.

Dialogues between art and science

In Dialogues between art and science, CNIO Arte presents this exhibition that is the culmination of the fourth edition of the Spanish National Cancer Research Center’s initiative connecting two fields often regarded as unrelated or even as opposite.

Ode to Dune Plants by Lula Goce

Not Your Regular Wall was born in 2018 with the purpose of giving Spanish artists the opportunity to intervene the hall of the Former Residence of the Ambassadors of Spain in Washington, D.C. In 2022, the fifth edition of the project invites the renowned Spanish urban artist Lula Goce and her artistic proposal Ode to Dune Plants to imprint the walls of the building.
