Juan Mari Arzak has spent 45 years in haute cuisine. Thanks to his creativity, personality, and ability, he is one of the most acclaimed chefs in the world. He rules the Arzak restaurant in San Sebastian, which has maintained three Michelin stars since 1989. This film explores his particular vision of the soul of his kitchen.
A documentary filmmaker, journalist, and author of numerous books on gastronomy, Hasier Etxeberria grew up in Elgoibar, Spain, but settled in Hendaye. In the early 1980s, he was witness to the so-called New Basque Cuisine movement. For the festival, Etxeberria presents two films that focus on cuisine and chefs from the Basque region. Following each screening, he takes the Family Theater stage to lead an engaging discussion. Each film is presented in Basque and Spanish with English subtitles, followed by lectures presented in Basque and Spanish with an English interpreter. Recommended for age 12 and up.
