From Spain with Design — Essence

The exhibition “From Spain with Design — Essence” showcases the work of some of the most awarded and renowned Spanish designers of our time, spanning object design, architecture, and communication.

The exhibition highlights the most outstanding examples of Spanish design, bringing together projects from various disciplines that stand out for their quality, their impact on both national and international markets, their exemplary collaboration between designers and companies, and their ability to provide coherent solutions while adding value.

Through several conceptual themes —such as sustainability, territory, culture, and gender— the exhibition explores the narratives conveyed by objects, spaces, and forms of communication. These narratives carry purpose, utility, and intention, shaping identity based on their creation context. They address specific problems and meet human needs. Spanish design’s research and development efforts continuously open new perspectives for growth and innovation, benefiting professionals and companies across various sectors, both locally and globally. This exhibition celebrates the talent, strength, cultural diversity, innovation, heterogeneity, and emotional resonance that define Spanish design, encompassing the center, the periphery, and, above all, the universal.

This project, developed collaboratively by READ, the Spanish Network of Design Associations, was initiated at the National Design Meetings to promote Spanish design internationally. Its goals include boosting creativity and design as drivers of development, enhancing both national and global communication about Spanish design, fostering professional unity, and showcasing the current state of the sector. The project aims to increase the visibility of Spanish design and strengthen the Marca España (Spain Brand), with financial support from Spain’s government.

Juan Lázaro (Cuenca Diseña), Uqui Permui (DAG), Gloria Escribano (DIMAD), and Ángel Martínez (ADCV) have adapted the original version of the exhibit created in 2021 into a responsive exhibition design tailored specifically for the Spanish Cultural Center.
