Compañía Irene Rodríguez at Artes de Cuba Festival

As part of “Artes de Cuba” Festival, the award-winning dancer and choreographer Irene Rodríguez presents “Desde nuestras raíces: Traditional Flamenco with Afro-Cuban Flair.”

Focused on creating and exploring new avenues to evolve Flamenco dance, dancer and choreographer Irene Rodríguez blends the fiery passion and exhilarating footwork of Flamenco with a unique Afro-Cuban flair. Her company’s program showcases different dance styles ranging from genuine Flamenco like bulerías and tanguillo de Cádiz; to Afro-Cuban dances like guaguancó, son, and rumba; to La Guajira and La Habanera.

Among her many honors, Rodríguez has been awarded First Prize at the Alicia Alonso Ibero-American Choreography Competition in 2012, and received an award from the Author’s Foundation of the Spanish General Society of Authors and Editors (SGAE).

Ms. Rodríguez is an intense, exacting dancer; the word ‘fiery’ so overused with respect to flamenco, actually suits her well.
