Carlos Núñez with the Sean Culkin Dancers

Galicia’s King of Celtic music will be giving a Special St. Patrick’s Day concert at Strathmore.

Phenomenal multi-instrumentalist Carloz Núñez grew up in Galicia in northern Spain —home to ancient civilizations whose Celtic traditions predated those of Scotland and Ireland, and to the Galician bagpipe, of which Núñez is the acknowledged world master.

Núñez first came to fame when touring with Paddy Moloney and the Chieftains, and went on to collaborations with artists as diverse as Ry Cooder, Sinéad O’Connor, Jackson Browne, Laura Anderson, and the Buena Vista Social Club.

In critically acclaimed performances and recordings, he links the bagpipe and other instruments of his homeland with a spectacular array of musical styles including Spanish flamenco, Cuban, Brazilian and Mexican music and even rock ’n’ roll —earning the sobriquet “the Hendrix of the bagpipes” (Chicago Sun-Times). Prepare for a “thrilling, joyful” evening with “a true original” (The Guardian, UK).

Watch Carlos Núñez perform Aires de Pontevedra.
