Javier Perianes on Tour in San Francisco

After acclaimed North American orchestral debuts last year, Spanish pianist Javier Perianes undertakes a solo recital tour featuring classics of the piano repertoire, including works by his countrymen Manuel de Falla and Isaac Albéniz.

38-year-old Perianes is one of today’s most celebrated and beloved Spanish pianists, enjoying a top-level career that last year saw him making his debut with major U.S. orchestras, from New York and Los Angeles Philharmonic to Chicago and Boston Symphony, and in Spain with the Wiener Philharmoniker.

Perianes will return to the U.S. this spring for a solo recital tour, starting on April 29 at UDC Theater of the Arts in Washington D.C., unfolding at the Frick Collection in New York on April 30 April, and Herbst Theatre in San Francisco on May 6 , before moving to Canada and South America.

The tour’s recital program comprise, among other works, Schubert’s Sonatas for Piano in A major and B-flat major and the Drei Klavierstücke, a selection from Debussy’s Préludes, and de Falla’s arrangement for solo piano of movements from El amor brujo. “Schubert occupies the first half of my recital programme,” notes Javier, as he is releasing in spring an all-Schubert album. The program’s second half is a combination of Debussy’s homage to Spanish music and works by de Falla and Albeniz, exploring the connections between the composers.

Born in Andalusia, Javier Perianes is one of the most exciting pianists of the current generation. His flourishing international career spans five continents, taking him to some of the world’s most prestigious halls, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Barbican, Royal Festival and Wigmore Hall in London, the Théatre des Champs Elysées in Paris, Berlin Philharmonie, the Musikverein in Vienna, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and Suntory Hall in Tokyo.

He has performed with conductors such as Barenboim, Dutoit, Mehta, Maazel, Frühbeck de Burgos, Dausgaard, Petrenko, Harding, and Temirkanov, among others, and appeared at festivals such as Lucerne, La Roque d’Anthéron, Grafenegg, San Sebastian, Granada and Ravinia. Recent orchestral debuts include Boston and Chicago Symphony, New York and Los Angeles Philharmonic orchestras, and Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal in North America, and Vienna Philharmonic, Munich Philharmonic and Philharmonia Orchestra in Europe.

In 2012 Javier Perianes received the National Music Prize awarded by the Spanish Ministry of Culture.
