Giulia Valle Trio 2017 North American Tour in San Francisco
Barcelona-based Composer and Bassist Giulia Valle returns with her band to San Francisco, playing emotional, nuanced jazz, where folk cadences, fanfare, and free-jazz sensibility fly as one.
Italian-born bass virtuoso Giulia Valle returns to the Joe Henderson Lab following her 2015 run during which she recorded a spellbinding new live album. An ascendant star on Barcelona’s fervently creative jazz scene, bassist Valle immersed herself in the European classical tradition at the Liceo Conservatory, but honed her jazz chops in New York City studying with Scott Colley and Ben Street.
She’s forged close ties with other American masters such as Jason Lindner, Jeff Williams, Gerald Cleaver, and John McNeil, making her debut as a leader with Colorista (Fresh Sound New Talent), which captured her cosmopolitan vision of jazz laced with Spanish, Brazilian, and Argentine influences. The healthy bonds linking Barcelona and New York City continue to invigorate her music.
She has released seven albums to date, writing extensively for all the ensembles with which she performs and is known for bringing out the unique talents of each of her collaborators. Giulia’s music is not easy to describe; it must be experienced. As a composer and performer, she uses her distinct voice to explore both the deepest corners of lyricism and the experimental edge of rhythmic concepts, letting her own folklore guide the way.
