Cristina Gómez Godoy at Newport Music Festival

American recital debut of celebrated Spanish oboist in concert with American pianist Claire Huangci, featuring music by Bach, Chopin, Britten, Scarlatti, Saint-Saëns, Ravel and Pasculli.

Spanish oboist Cristina Gómez Godoy combines technical brilliance with musical expressiveness, stunning virtuosity with artistic sensitivity and “miraculously effortless instinctiveness” (Süddeutsche Zeitung.) She regularly impresses audiences at major festivals and concert halls around the world with her profound musicality and color-rich sound. In 2012, at age twenty-one, she joined the Staatskapelle Berlin as solo English Horn. In 2013, Gómez Godoy was appointed principal solo oboist of the orchestra.

Despite her young age, Cristina Gómez Godoy has already appeared as a soloist with major orchestras such as the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Munich Chamber Orchestra in the Herkulessaal, with the Orchestra Sinfonica do Estado de São Paulo at Sala São Paulo, with the Filarmónica de Málaga in Spain, with the Polish Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra, and with the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, conducted by Daniel Barenboim.

As a valued guest she has played as principal oboe in world leading orchestras including the Berlin Philharmonic, Filarmonica della Scala di Milano, Chamber Orchestra of Europe, London Symphony Orchestra, Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra among others, and played under renowned conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle, Riccardo Muti, Zubin Mehta, Andris Nelson, Gustavo Dudamel, Daniel Harding, and Alan Gilbert. Daniel Barenboim has also invited her at an early stage of her career to play in his West-Eastern Divan Orchestra. As early as 2008/09 she gained experience in orchestral playing as a solo oboist with the Real Orquesta Sinfónica de Sevilla.

She has received numerous awards in national and international competitions such as the ARD Competition in Munich including the BR-Klassik Prize and Internationaler Instrumentalwettbewerb Markneukirchen. She regularly gives international master classes in the UK (Royal Academy of Music London), Spain (Congreso de la Asociación de Oboístas y Fagotistas de España), Brazil (Festival Internacional de Inverno de Campos do Jordão), Germany (Universität der Künste Berlin), and Taiwan. In October 2015, she was appointed adjunct faculty at the Universität der Künste Berlin.
