Spanish Serenades
The two-day program explores the rich legacy of the Spanish song and the leading exponents of the Spanish romance –including Granados, Turina, Falla– alongside lesser-heard Spanish song composers.
Spanish Serenades is in tribute to the 150th anniversary of the birth of composer and pianist Enrique Granados (1867-1916) and the composers in his circle, exploring the rich heritage of Spanish song and the leading exponents of the Spanish Romance.
Having had a love of Schumann, Granados’ music is at once bound with European Romanticism and the soul of Spain’s folkloric traditions. Granados’ “vivid music pursues you like certain perfumes, more persistent than strong,” said his contemporary Claude Debussy, and forms a major part of the foundation of modern Spanish music.
