Joshua DeWane: Midnight in Madrid
“Midnight in Madrid” conveys photographer Joshua DeWane’s perspective of the city streets in the midnight hour during the autumn of a recession.
Shot throughout the months of September and November of 2011 in Madrid, Spain, Midnight in Madrid conveys photographer Joshua DeWane’s perspective of the city streets in the midnight hour during the autumn of a recession. Without the use of a tripod, the hand-held images often capture motion blur and saturation of color through the use of open exposures. The result is a hauntingly beautiful blending of the architectural grandeur of the capital of Spain, with the madrileños flowing freely throughout a number of the images. Included in the collection are images of political and artistic venues such as the Palacio Real, Museo del Prado, and Palacio del Senado, as well as street life in neighborhoods such as Lavapiés and the city center, Puerta del Sol.
Born and raised outside of Philadelphia, Joshua DeWane has called Manhattan his home for the past 19 years. Graduating with a BA in Film/ Communications from Temple University, Joshua’s main field of concentration in recent years is in the art of still photography. His love of lines, light, shadows and color is evident in his recent collection of work.
