Flamenco Festival NYC 2017

The Festival has been a Flamenco music and dance reference in New York since its beginning in 2001.

Full of virtuosity and passion, Gala Flamenca has been a Festival highlight since its 2001 debut. The Festival will close with the New York premiere of Pisadas, a new show starring Olga Pericet that explores the origins and rituals of human life with a daring feminist slant.

  • On March 9, 10 & 11 at 8 pm. Buy tickets.
  • At New York City Center, 131 W 55th St, New York, NY 10019.

Spain’s finest dancers and musicians come to City Center for you to experience flamenco at its most authentic at Gala Flamenca, an all-star event directed by Manuel Liñan and featuring today’s most exciting artists, including legendary Gypsy dancer Juana Amaya, technical powerhouse Jesús Carmona, contemporary innovator Patricia Guerrero, flamenco star Olga Pericet, and singer-songwriter Rocío Márquez.

Compañía Olga Pericet: Pisadas

  • At New York City Center, 131 W 55th St, New York, NY 10019.

Josemi Carmona & Javier Colina: De Cerca

  • On March 10 at 9:30 pm.
  • At Joe’s Pub, 425 Lafayette St, New York, NY 10003.

Supported by years of friendship and collaboration, De Cerca represents the musical encounter between the Dlamenco guitar of Josemi Carmona (son of prestigious guitarist Pepe Habichuela and leader of the legendary band Ketama) and the double-bass playing of Javier Colina (a regular of Bebo and Chucho Valdés or Jerry González). Jazz & Flamenco share common roots in this virtuoso project that joins two essential names of Spanish music nowadays.

Alfonso Aroca: Orilla del Mundo

  • On March 11 at 9:30 pm.
  • At Joe’s Pub, 425 Lafayette St, New York, NY 10003.

Last summer Alfonso Aroca won the award for the best flamenco instrumentalist in Spain. Following the footsteps of David Peña Dorantes and Diego Amador, the pianist from Córdoba translates the flamenco guitar to the keyboard. He surrounds himself with a group of young, first-rate musicians who help him to raise the flamenco tradition to new heights. Orilla del Mundo (Shore of the World) is his début album which he will present at the festival.

Sonia Olla: Raudal

  • On March 17 at 9:30 pm.
  • At Joe’s Pub, 425 Lafayette St, New York, NY 10003.

Raudal is a soulful performance that captures the emotion and passion of both traditional and innovative flamenco. It sets free the mature and skillful creativity of Sonia Olla and Ismael Fernández.

UHF: At Ultra High Flamenco

  • On March 18 at 9:30 pm.
  • At Joe’s Pub, 425 Lafayette St, New York, NY 10003.
