Celestine by Atalaya Company

Atalaya Company presents a secular Celestine –blasphemous and libertarian, full of courage, wisdom and tenacity.
La Celestina is undoubtedly high on the list of Spanish-language’s top theater plays and its lead is one of the most important female characters in the history of universal theater. Atalaya company sets a frenzied rhythm of action and an unusual musical wealth, propitiated by the text itself, projecting grotesque characters, but who are also tremendously human.
The staging has required 140 essays, the largest creation process in the more than thirty years of Atalaya’s existence, including several months of work for the adaptation.
As for the characters of Melibea, far from the idea of a changing, superficial, naive and weak woman, the text presents her as rebellious, unsuspecting, intelligent and coherent. Calisto, on the other hand, is more tragicomic, capricious, ridiculed by the servants and Celestina, but has moments of lucidity and courage.
