At the Barricades is a documentary-style history play focused on the international brigades that fought in the Spanish Civil War. Co-written by the creators of What Will the Neighbors Say?, it follows six characters from the United States, Spain, and Scotland. They are united by a shared commitment to resist Franco’s fascist uprising. Set on the outskirts of Madrid in January 1937, the narrative traces the development of their political beliefs, personal relationships, and self-awareness over a year marked by conflict and loss.
