Art Omi: Writers Reading with the May Cohort

Miguel Ángel Hernández presents his work at Art Omi’s public reading, alongside fellow international writers.

Art Omi hosts a public reading featuring the international cohort of writers currently in residence as part of Art Omi: Writers program. Hear original work from a distinguished group of novelists, poets, playwrights, and translators representing a wide array of countries, languages, and literary traditions.

During their multi-week residency at Art Omi, these writers dedicate time to developing new projects while participating in cross-cultural dialogue and creative exchange. The public reading showcases the rich diversity of voices and styles present in this year’s cohort, offering audiences a rare glimpse into global contemporary literature in progress.

Among the May 2025 residents is Spanish novelist and art historian Miguel Ángel Hernández, whose latest work, Anoxia, explores themes of memory, trauma, and the environment. Following his residency, Hernández will present the book in several cities, sharing his deeply atmospheric narrative and insight into the human condition. In Anoxia, the author delves into the psychological tension that follows loss, blending the fragility of human existence with the existential weight of memory.

Other participants include Alba Mogensen (Sweden), a fiction writer exploring identity and belonging; Gloria Majule (Tanzania), a playwright whose work examines race and migration; Jennifer Neal (U.S./Australia), a multidisciplinary artist and author; Jung Yun (U.S.), a novelist known for character-driven narratives; R. K. Fauth (U.S.), a poet and translator; Louise Roug Bokkenheuser (Denmark/U.S.), a journalist and writer; Sarah Weinman (U.S.), a noted crime and literary historian; Theresa Hottel (U.S.), a writer of short fiction and essays; and Wah-Ming Chang (U.S.), a nonfiction writer and editor focused on diasporic experiences.
