A Musical Fantasy from Spain

Teatro Real returns to Carnegie Hall with María Dueñas and Saioa Hernández in a Spanish program led by David Afkham.
Teatro Real, The Royal Opera of Madrid, returns to Carnegie Hall for the third time. The program features the Violin Concerto in D Major by Korngold, a composer who fled the nazis and succeeded in Hollywood. The Concerto is played by Spanish violinist María Dueñas with the Orchestra of Madrid’s Teatro Real. This performance marks the American debut of the Spanish soprano Saioa Hernández. She sings arias from zarzuelas (Spanish operettas) and Spanish operas by Serrano, Penella, along with Falla’s La vida breve. David Afkham leads the Orchestra of the Teatro Real.
The artistic team features renowned talents including violinist María Dueñas, soprano Saioa Hernández, and distinguished conductor David Afkham, all performing alongside the Orchestra of Madrid’s Teatro Real.

María Dueñas
María Dueñas is a spanish violinist. She is the winner of Princess of Girona Award and first prize winner in the Yehudi Menuhin Competition, who has chosen to perform Korngold’s Concerto for Violin and Orchestra, the composer who fled the Nazis and triumphed in Hollywood.
Saoia Hernández
Saioa Hernández is a Spanish soprano closely associated with the Teatro Real. The Madrid-born singer, who won the Best Singer award at the International Opera Awards, will perform arias from zarzuelas by José Serrano and Manuel Penella, as well as a monologue from Falla’s La vida breve.
