Las Migas at FlamenGO 2023

Las Migas, the Spanish group that won the Latin Grammy for Best Flamenco Album in 2022 for their latest album, “Libres,” arrives in Miami.

As part of FlamenGO 2023, the Cultural Center of Spain in Miami presents Las Migas in concert after touring Latin America and India, their homeland Spain, and countless European cities.

This all-female new flamenco quartet was formed in Barcelona around 2004 by a group of students of Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC). Las Migas’ original take on flamenco attempted to reflect the bandmembers’ different origins and backgrounds: Silvia Pérez Cruz (Girona, fado and jazz), Marta Robles (Seville, flamenco and classical guitar), Isabelle Laudenbach (Berlin, flamenco guitar), and Lisa Bause (French Brittany, music hall and tango).

Over the years the group appeared in numerous festivals, but it was only in 2010 that Las Migas found the time to record their debut album, Las Reinas del Matute, which included poems by Federico García Lorca and Rafael Alberti, traditionals, and a few originals. Part of Las Migas’ sporadic nature had to do with the multiple commitments of lead singer Cruz, who eventually left to pursue a solo career. Alba Carmona took her spot for 2012’s Nosotras Somos.
