Chico Pérez at FlamenGO 2025

The annual FlamenGO program presents the Spanish pianist Chico Pérez with his show “El Piano Flamenco de Chico Pérez.”

Pianist and composer Chico Pérez makes his Miami debut accompanied by his quintet, consisting of piano, vocals, electric bass, trumpet, and percussion. The program features selections from his most recent recordings.

His music is rooted in flamenco and incorporates elements of jazz, blues, and classical music, resulting in a distinctive style that moves beyond traditional genre classifications.

This performance offers an overview of Pérez’s current work and musical approach, highlighting his interpretation of flamenco through a contemporary and cross-genre lens.

About Chico Pérez

Chico Pérez is a Spanish pianist and composer whose work blends flamenco with elements of jazz, blues, classical music, and film scoring. He has performed at major festivals and venues including the Madrid International Jazz Festival, Jazzaldía (San Sebastián), the Royal Alcázar of Seville, Flamencos y Mestizos Festival, and the Seville Flamenco Biennial, where he premiered his latest work in 2024. He also opened the Autumn Festival in Madrid alongside the Spanish Philharmonic Orchestra.

His albums Gruserías and Continente 27 received nominations for Best Flamenco Album at the Spanish Music Awards and were recognized by El País among the top flamenco releases of their respective years. Pérez has collaborated with artists such as Arcángel, Manuel Lombo, Rosario “La Tremendita,” and Antonio Serrano, and has shared stages with figures including Israel Fernández, Chucho Valdés, Pat Metheny, Tomatito, Farruquito, and Rocío Márquez. He premiered Sueño de 1922 at Madrid’s Teatro de la Abadía in 2022 and is currently working on his third album, Sarao.

Pérez is a recipient of several awards and fellowships, including support from Fundación Nadine, Música en Vena, and Fundación SGAE’s national JazzEñe initiative. He has also been recognized by RTVE, received the Young Talent Award, and won First Prize at the Composer of Madrid competition. Internationally, he was invited to perform at Oxford University’s The World’s Music at Oxford festival.

In addition to his concert career, Pérez has composed original music for short films and documentaries. Until 2021, he served as principal pianist in the Spanish production of The Lion King, and he remains active in educational and social projects through performances, talks, and collaborations with various cultural organizations.

FlamenGO is an annual program organized by CCEMiami that provides visibility and opportunities for emerging flamenco artists with strong potential in Spain, whether by facilitating their debut performances in the United States or by supporting the premiere of new shows.

Previous editions of FlamenGO have featured renowned artists such as Juan Habichuela Nieto, Kiki Morente, La Flaka, María Toledo, Alberto Raya, the dance companies of Alfonso Losa and Vanesa Coloma, El Yiyo, Las Migas, and the dance company of Paula Rodríguez.
