Spanish Cultural Series featuring Mr. Kilombo and Pedro Pastor

The “Spanish Cultural Series” at the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art highlights contemporary Spanish music with performances by singer-songwriters Mr. Kilombo and Pedro Pastor.
The series features two Spanish singer-songwriters, Mr. Kilombo and Pedro Pastor, alongside two Cuban poetic musicians, Pedro Luis Ferrer and Lena Ferrer. This initiative invites Memphis audiences to explore Spain’s evolving musical landscape through live performances that blend traditional sounds with modern influences.
Mr. Kilombo, known for his energetic blend of pop, rock, and Latin rhythms, brings a lively and vibrant presence to the stage. In contrast, Pedro Pastor offers a more introspective and socially engaged experience, combining folk, hip-hop, and global beats to explore themes like identity, migration, and social justice. These performances foster cross-cultural dialogue and artistic exchange, highlighting the richness and diversity of Spain’s contemporary musical expression.

Mr. Kilombo, born Miki Ramírez in Madrid in 1982, is a Spanish singer-songwriter known for his eclectic fusion of pop, rock, reggae, ska, and Latin rhythms. He began his musical journey in his teens, initially playing guitar and performing with local bands. Ramírez gained significant experience as a guitarist and backing vocalist for Macaco over seven years before launching his solo career. His discography includes albums like Confesiones de un Don Nadie (2002), Invencibles (2016), and Todo este caos (2024). Mr. Kilombo’s music is characterized by its vibrant energy, socially conscious lyrics, and a blend of humor and personal reflection, earning him a place in the contemporary Spanish music scene.

Pedro Pastor Guerra, born November 18, 1994, in Madrid, is an independent Spanish singer-songwriter renowned for his socially conscious and critical lyrics. His music blends elements of folk, hip-hop, rap, ska, and Latin American rhythms, creating a distinctive and eclectic sound. Coming from a musical family —his father is the singer-songwriter Luis Pastor, and his mother, Lourdes Guerra, is the sister of musician Pedro Guerra— Pastor was immersed in music from an early age. He began composing songs at 13 and performed his first solo concert at 15.
In 2012, he released his debut EP, Aunque esté mal contarlo, followed by several albums, including La vida plena (2014), SoloLuna (2017), Vulnerables (2019), Vueltas (2021), and Escorpiano (2024), many in collaboration with his band, Los Locos Descalzos. Pedro Pastor has toured extensively across Spain and Latin America, establishing himself as a prominent voice in contemporary Spanish music.
