From Spain to Boston: a Road to Success 2015

A public program featuring introductory remarks overviewing ECUSA-Boston’s achievement during this past year followed by an interactive presentation by Mercedes Balcells.

Mercedes Balcells will share how her studies in basic science have enabled her to promote fruitful collaborations between industry and academia, create a start-up, and establish international exchange programs such as the MIT-Spain Program.

Balcells earned her PhD in macromolecular chemistry from RWTH Aachen University, Germany. Thereafter, at MIT, Mercedes pursued biomedical engineering research at the Harvard-MIT Biomedical Engineering Center, co-created the MIT-Spain Program and founded Regenear, a company that seeks to develop tissue-engineered cartilage to repair genetic facial malformations or accidental injuries.

Her research focuses on understanding the role played by endothelial cells, a single cell layer that lines all blood vessel, in dictating health or disease states.

Followed by a networking reception. This program will be in English and refreshments will be served.
