Spanish souvenirs by Marina Bengoa Roldán

As part of its “Spring Piano Series,” the Anderson Museum of Contemporary Art hosts Marina Bengoa Roldán, who performs “Spanish Souvenirs,” featuring music by Spanish composers Isaac Albéniz, Manuel de Falla, and Pascual Gimeno.

Dr. Marina Bengoa is a Spanish pianist originally from Madrid. Bengoa created the website spanishpianomusic.org to promote Spanish music in English-speaking countries. She has been presenting at conferences worldwide and playing piano in prestigious venues in Europe and the United States.
The program Spanish Souvenirs stems from an in-depth study. It features some well-known pieces from the Spanish repertoire alongside lesser-known works. Additionally, it includes a new composition by Spanish composer Pascual Gimeno, commissioned by Dr. Marina Bengoa.
Spanish souvenirs represents different folklore styles in Spain and even different representations of flamenco at the beginning of the 20th century and nowadays, becoming a unique “Souvenir” for people to experience Spanish music from different eras.
Marina Bengoa Roldán
Marina Bengoa Roldán is a Spanish pianist with a distinguished international career. She began her piano studies at the age of 7 at the Centro Integrado de Música Padre Antonio Soler. She later pursued her undergraduate degree in piano at the Conservatorio Superior de Música Salvador Seguí in Castellón. In 2022, she earned a Doctorate in Piano Performance from the University of Oregon.
Throughout her career, she has performed in prestigious venues across the United States, Spain, and other European countries, both as a soloist, in orchestral concerts, and as part of chamber music ensembles. She is currently an Assistant Professor of Piano at Eastern New Mexico University (USA). Previously, she taught at Southern Arkansas University.
Dr. Bengoa had her orchestral debut in 2013 when she performed Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Tetracorde Orchestra, under the baton of Javier Carrau, in various venues across Valencia (Spain). In 2016, she made her debut at Carnegie Hall in New York.
