'España – Spanish Mystics and Earthly Joys'

San Juan Capistrano-based a cappella choral group de Angelis pays homage to its home performance space—the Mission San Juan Capistrano, the birthplace of Orange County—with the music of Spain.

Our Spanish heritage forms an important cultural mien in Orange County. We are dedicated to really understanding the ancient and modern traditions of our founders and to sharing them with all of our local audiences. Spanish musical art is widely expressive, encompassing mystic, classical and earthily secular genres.

de Angelis artistic director Matthew Gray.

The de Angelis Vocal Ensemble explores the riches of Spain. Enjoy some of the most breathtakingly beautiful music from Renaissance Spain, followed by recent compositions based on the mystic visions of St. Teresa of Avila and St. John of God. A selection of present day secular compositions from the Basque country and Iberian Peninsula finishes the program.

Formed in 2005, the de Angelis Vocal Ensemble comprises talented singers in Los Angeles and Orange Counties. Each member of de Angelis is a distinguished soloist, dedicated to choral art and bringing a wealth of experience and education to the group. The ensemble’s widely varied a cappella repertoire ranges from Gregorian chant to present day choral classics.
