LA Grand Ensemble: A visual concert

LA Grand Ensemble: A visual concert

LA Grand Ensemble performs Shostakovich, Colomer, and Mahler as part of ALOUD program.

In this public premiere, the newly created LA Grand Ensemble, directed by composer Juan Colomer, under the baton of Maestro Ignazio Terrasi (assistant conductor, LA Opera), blends theatrical and visual elements with classical music —performed by musicians from the LA Opera and The Colburn School— offering a classical music experience that is truly contemporary.

LA Grand Ensemble is composed of musicians from the most prestigious orchestras and music institutions in Los Angeles, including the LA Philharmonic, the LA Opera and the Colburn School —all institutions based in the Music Center on Grand Avenue in downtown Los Angeles. The main focus of the LA Grand Ensemble is to incorporate a visual element into the concert experience by interacting with other elements such as lighting, set design, costume design, and 21st century technologies. The purpose is to the engage the audience not only acoustically but visually as well, and to have a sense of theatrical continuity by immersing the audience into the context of the music.
