Fundación Casa Patas with Karen Lugo at Fuego Flamenco VIII

Flamenco dancer Karen Lugo has garnered critical acclaim for her interpretation of classical flamenco, as well as her passionate style and incorporation of elements of modern dance into her performances.

GALA’s crowd pleasing and acclaimed flamenco festival is here for its eighth year. Fuego Flamenco VIII is an exploration of traditional flamenco and its depth and diversity through contemporary expressions.

This year’s attractions include a United States premiere with the sultry Karen Lugo and Company from Madrid, and a world premiere by Edwin Aparicio and the Flamenco Aparicio Dance Company from Washington, D.C. that features artists from Spain and the United States.

In addition, there will be free lecture-demonstrations on flamenco for children and families, and a special recognition for the legendary local flamenco artists Ana Martínez and Paco de Malága.

Flamenco: Territorio DeMente is choreographed and performed by Karen Lugo and also features artist José Maldonado. This innovative work showcases the universality of dance and music as it transcends language, culture and emotions. The winding roads of flamenco with its styles and rhythms, states Karen Lugo, invite us to a remote place where sadness, sanity, passion and instinct coexist. The show also features singers Naike Ponce and Loreto de Diego; guitarists David Durán and Bettina Flater; and Víctor Guadiana on violin.
