Tribute to Isaac Albéniz: Peter Schaaf in concert

Pianist Peter Schaaf has received rave reviews for his 2011 CD recording of Iberia, the monumental, virtuosic, and deeply moving masterpiece by Isaac Albéniz.

…hear how profoundly beautifully Schaaf plays them… his engagement with the music's depths is total and heartening.

— Jeff Simon, Buffalo News

Schaaf, a New Yorker, fell in love with flamenco music when he was a teenager listening to recordings of Sabicas and Carlos Montoya. He learned Triana, from Iberia, when he was a prize-winning piano student at The Juilliard School, studying with Rosina Lhévinne.

He then went on to a career as a chamber musician and an accompanist for such artists as Yo-Yo Ma, Jon Vickers, and Renata Tebaldi. Then, after a 25-year hiatus during which he made a substantial career as a photographer of musicians, he returned to the piano specifically to learn the entire Iberia, which he has loved for so many years.

Tickets: $15 / ICNY members: $10.
