Santiago Sierra's 'NO, Global Tour'

‘NO, Global Tour’ is the latest work by the controversial artist Santiago Sierra premiering in the U.S at the Phillips Collection.

Since July 2009, Santiago Sierra’s sculpture, NO, has visited different European and North American cities. The NO, Global Tour video was completed in Washington, D.C. in June 2010, as a result of this itinerary. This video presentation tells the story of this particular tour.

NO comprises three trucks bearing an oversized three-dimensional sign depicting the word “NO." The film, directed by Santiago Sierra and filmed by Diego Santome, follows this tour through industrial areas from Toronto to Miami. As an anti-slogan, NO stands against oppression, injustice, and censorship. This U.S. premiere is followed by a panel discussion moderated by Vesela Sretenovic, Phillips curator of modern and contemporary art with Welmoed Laanstra, public arts project coordinator for Arlington Cultural Affairs; Jack Rasmussen, director and curator of the Katzen Arts Center; Victoria Reis, director of Transformer gallery; and Donald H. Russell, director of Provisions Library.
