Music from Spain
The Cultural Office of the Embassy of Spain in Washington, D.C. presents its music program Music from Spain, an initiative to foster Spanish music and musicians in the US, focusing on three different lines of work: enhancing the internationalization of Spanish young musicians, collaborating with renowned foundations to promote Spanish musical figures and their musical legacy, and working with local institutions to promote Spanish music. To achieve these goals, we have partnered up with Juventudes Musicales de España and the Achúcarro Foundation.
The main and new line of work of Music from Spain is Spanish Young Music Talents – SYMT, focused on enhancing the internationalization of Spanish young musicians.
Spanish Young Music Talents – SYMT
SYMT has been envisioned to strengthen and support Spanish young musicians’ careers, in collaboration with US music schools and universities at a higher level, offering the musicians the chance to play a concert or solo recital abroad, give or receive a masterclass, talks, meetings, etc.
All invited musicians are winners of Juventudes Musicales de España and are under 30 years old. To support Spanish creators and renowned musicians, and recognize their legacy, the Cultural Office works with local and international institutions such as the Achúcarro Foundation, who is currently commemorating the 90th Birthday of Maestro Joaquín Achúcarro with a tour that celebrates his life with concerts by some of his youngest and former students as well as some concerts by Achúcarro himself. Finally, the third line of action pursues the support of local groups with an outstanding background that play Spanish repertoire, therefore promoting live concerts where Spanish classical music is the main actor.
