Teatro Lirico DC: Zarzuela Gala Concert

A unique treat for zarzuela lovers, this concert showcases some of the finest arias and duos from the Spanish lyric repertoire.

A cast of 12 highly prestigious opera and zarzuela performers brings to life memorable numbers by Spanish composers Chapi, Luna, Vives, Moreno-Torroba, Barbieri, and Guerrero. The artists include several internationally acclaimed singers, such as tenor Israel Lozano and baritone Gustavo Ahualli.

For those not familiar with this music genre, a zarzuela is a play with music and spoken parts. It is a genre whose production spanned from the 17th century through the 20th century. Depending on when it was composed, a zarzuela may resemble an opera (baroque, bel canto, verismo and even French or German), an operetta (similar to Gilbert & Sullivan or Offenbach), or a musical. Whatever the style, Spain’s joie de vivre is always present.

This fundraising event at the International Student House is designed to help Teatro Lirico cover the expenses for the upcoming season’s productions.

Tickets are tax-deductible, and they include a pre-concert reception at 7 pm with hors d'oeuvres and wine.
