Marina Vargas at New Worlds: Women to Watch 2024

Discover the art of Marina Vargas and other visionary artists as they explore diverse perspectives amidst the ever-changing global landscape.

Visionary artists engage in reimagining historical narratives, exploring present-day realities, and envisioning alternate futures, thereby catalyzing inspiration within their audiences. In recent years, the global landscape has undergone significant transformation, marked by the emergence of a pandemic, calls for social reform, and heightened political divisions. These extraordinary circumstances have served as fertile ground for artistic exploration and expression.

New Worlds: Women to Watch 2024 features works by 28 artists —including Spanish artist Marina Vargas— who delve into these themes, offering diverse perspectives shaped by varying geographies, cultural backgrounds, and temporal contexts.

New Worlds stands as one of the inaugural exhibitions following the reopening of NMWA post-renovation, representing the seventh and most expansive iteration of the museum’s Women to Watch series.

Marina Vargas

Marina Vargas is a Spanish artist whose work often explores states of ambivalence, such as hanging and floating, which she uses to express complex ideas and emotions. Her work, featured in exhibitions and magazines, often explores movement and the human body, reflecting her interest with the connection between physicality and emotions.

She has earned her BFA and MFA in Visual Language from the University of Granada and is currently a member of la Logía Las Roldanas, an organization that promotes art and culture in Granada.
