Flamenco Festival New York 2014

Flamenco Festival 2014 celebrates its twelfth year in New York featuring over 80 dancers, vocalists and guitarists direct from Spain.

Flamenco Festival presents the vibrant spectrum of flamenco, with the traditional Gypsy roots and contemporary interpretations represented by some of the world’s finest Spanish dancers and musicians of today. The tour continues through the U.S. with passion, drama and lighting footwork in a two-week celebration of flamenco.

Gala Flamenca: Antonio Canales, Carlos Rodríguez, Karime Amaya, Jesús Carmona

• On Thursday, March 6 and Friday, March 7 at 8 pm. At NY City Center.
• One of the greatest flamenco masters, Antonio Canales, will be joined by Carlos Rodríguez, known for his bold mix of contemporary dance and traditional flamenco; the riveting Karime Amaya, who has earned praise following in the footsteps of her great-aunt, the legendary Carmen Amaya; and the young sensation hailed as the future of flamenco, Jesús Carmona.

Ballet Flamenco Eva Yerbabuena: ‘AY!’ and ‘Lluvia’

• On Saturday, March 8 at 8 pm: AY!. On Sunday, March 9 at 7 pm: LLuvia. At NY City Center.
• Enthralling audiences with her explosive footwork, graceful movement, and innovative choreography for more than 15 years, but mostly appreciated for her duende, the soulfulness and emotional depth that is the hallmark of great flamenco dancers.

Estrella Morente: ‘Autorretrato’ (‘Self-Portrait’)

• On Saturday, March 8 at 7:30 pm. At Carnegie Hall (Stern Auditorium).
• Estrella Morente has dazzled audiences and critics alike with her compelling performances of flamenco and popular Spanish songs that brings a fresh approach to the Andalusian tradition.

Israel Galván: ‘La Curva’

• On Thursday, March 13 & Friday, March 14 at 7:30 pm. At Michael Schimmel Center for the Arts.
• A flamenco maverick revered for his brilliant footwork and intriguing contemporary choreography deeply rooted in traditional flamenco.

Tomatito: ‘Tomatito Sextet’

• On Saturday, March 15 at 8 pm. At Jazz at Lincoln Center (Rose Theater).
• Multiple Latin Grammy winner considered the finest guitarist of his generation. Tomatito thrillingly blends traditional flamenco and jazz in his music.

Compañía Rocío Molina: ‘Afectos’

• On Thursday, March 20; Friday, March 21; and Saturday, March 22 at 8 pm. At Baryshnikov Arts Center (Jerome Robbins Theater)
• At the forefront of modern flamenco, with her unique blend of Flamenco, classical bolero, and traditional popular dance.

Falla and Flamenco: ‘El Amor Brujo’

• On Saturday, March 22 at 8 pm and Sunday March, 23 at 4 & 7 pm. At Salvatore Capezio Theater at Peridance.
• Featuring the famous Spanish flamenco cantaora Rocío Bazán and New York’s Peridance Contemporary Dance Company. Free pre-concert presentation with Antonio Muñoz Molina, Igal Perry, and Angel Gil-Ordóñez on Sunday March 23 at 3 pm.

Beyond Flamenco will introduce Americans to a new generation of musicians that embrace flamenco’s roots while re-inventing them, each in their own unique style, updating Spanish music for the 21st century:

Rosario Toledo: ‘Pintoresca’

• On Thursday, March 13 at 9:30 pm. At Joe’s Pub.
• This explosive young dancer presents a tour-de-force exploration of her path to Flamenco.

Sonia Olla: ‘Tiempo al Aire’

• On Thursday, March 20 at 9:30 pm. At Joe’s Pub.
• Established in New York after dancing with all the big Flamenco companies in Spain (Maria Pagés, Canales), Ms. Olla will join forces with singer Ismael de la Rosa for an evening of dynamic Flamenco.

Silvia Pérez Cruz and Raúl Fernández Refree: ‘Cruzmiró’

• On Saturday, March 22 at 7:30 pm. At Joe’s Pub.
• A captivating singer and performer, Cruz is a winner of both a Goya Award –Spain’s most prestigious film awards– for best original song in acclaimed film Blancanieves and a recipient of the 2013 Gold award disc for her first album.

Fuel Fandango: ‘Trece Lunas’

Dani de Morón & Aaron Diehl: ‘Flamenco meets Jazz’

• On Friday, March 14; Saturday, March 15; Sunday, March 16 at 7:30 pm and 9:30 pm. At Jazz At Lincoln Center, Dizzy’s Club.
• A creative collaboration that showcases two extraordinary instrumentalists from beloved musical traditions of Spain and the United States.

Rocío Bazán: ‘Flamenco recital’

• One of the finest new flamenco singers will present an extraordinary recital of traditional flamenco.
