A Palo Seco Flamenco Company: Cinco por Cinco

A Palo Seco Flamenco Company presents Cinco Por Cinco, a show that upholds Flamenco’s traditions while also pushing its boundaries and giving it a distinctive New York City feel.

Led by artistic director and choreographer, Rebeca Tomas, and musical director Pedro Cortes, A Palo Seco is a New York based Flamenco Company described as awesomely fiery (New York Times) and a feast for the eyes and the ears (Theater Online).

Since its inception in 2010, the company has been gaining national recognition for its artistic vision deeply rooted in Flamenco tradition, yet relevant in a modern urban context. Over the past year, they have appeared at the 2012 Chicago Flamenco Festival along with renowned Spanish artists Raimundo and Diego Amador, at Jacob Pillow’s 80th season, at the New York City Between the Seas Festival of Mediterranean Arts, and at the Multicultural Center of East Cambridge. Their productions feature traditional Flamenco repertoire combined with the company’s penchant for an innovative and edgy New York City feel.

Conceived and directed by Rebeca Tomás, A Palo Seco’s Cinco por Cinco will be performed by dancers Tomas, Sol “La Argentinita”, Marina Elana, Leslie Roybal, Laura Castellano, and director Rebeca Tomas. Musicians include guitarist and musical director Pedro Cortés, violinist Alí Bello, percussionist Jose Moreno and singers David Castellano and Bárbara Martínez. Lighting design is by Stephen Petrilli.

Shows on May 17-18 at 8 pm, and on May 19 at 3 pm.
