Exhibit: 'The Worlds of Gonzalo Torrente Ballester'

On the hundredth anniversary of the birth of Torrente Ballester, this exhibition presents a faithful portrait of the renowned Spanish writer.

The Worlds of Gonzalo Torrente Ballester seeks to draw a faithful portrait of the writer on the hundredth anniversary of his birth.

The exhibition approaches the person, his writings and his thoughts through a sampling that brings together a selection of photographs from his life and the places he called home, his personal belongings, as well as various documents and editions of his books. The work and thought of Gonzalo Torrente Ballester is essential in the scope of twentieth-century Spanish culture. This exhibition looks at the life of the writer, through the places (real or fictionalized) in which it transpired. Manuscripts, books, photographs and drawings bring to life his devotion to and thoughts about the theater. A choice selection of paintings and sculptures convey his interest in the fine arts, while the photographer Vari Caramés recreates the universe of the writer through photographs of the places he frequented.

Organized by Instituto Cervantes New York and Acción Cultural Española (AC/E). In collaboration with the Gonzalo Torrente Ballester Foundation and the State University of New York at Albany.

The exhibition opens October 13th with a round table discussion at 6:30 pm: Gonzalo Torrente Ballester and the United States: New Horizons, Lasting Influences.
